UTS Norths “Learn to Power Clean” holiday training session

17 Dec 2018 by UTS Admin

Being the festive season the jokes are doing the rounds. “The Power Clean” you would guess has a few, however those that perform the athletic movement are smiling as they hit PB after PB season after season.

So in the festive spirit, our Club President and multi National record holder and National Champion, Ashley McMahon, has nicely volunteered his time to benefit the club and its members for this transformational offer.

Q: So, what’s a power clean?

A: Here is a YouTube clip of me and a few of the people I have taught doing a power clean.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47NBogBbrwI

Q: What’s so good about a power clean? A: The power clean develops power, which will make you run faster, jump further and higher and lift more weight, faster.
The movement also improves coordination and burn loads of energy. … If your sprinting, jumping or throwing, you need power.

The Power Clean engages all the major muscles in the body working together, from the calves all the way up to the traps—in much the same way you need to on the track.

Q: Why am I offering this?

A: I believe if athletes learn to do them properly they will improve, which leads to more successful athletes and more success for the club.
It’s something that you really need an experienced coach for and youtube is not good enough in this case.

Q: Who am I offering it to?

A: Any full member of UTS Norths who is over 16

Q: Where will it be held?

A: In the Gym at Rotary

Q:What I will do?

A: Teach the power clean from scratch so athletes can use it in their own training.

Part 1 – Break it down into 4 puzzle pieces

Part 2 – Put the puzzle pieces together

Part 3 – Sample training session and explain training principles (how heavy, how often)

Part 4 – Extension – Add Hanging Power Clean and Clean Pull (if time permits)

Q: What I won’t do

A: I won’t ask you to join our squad.
I won’t become your personal trainer.
I won’t write you a strength program.

Q: How much will I charge.

A: I will charge $20 and that money will be all be donated to UTS Norths to buy training equipment.

Q: How long would a session take?

A: About 2 hours and I will train up to 4 people at a time.

Q: How many sessions?

A: 4 sessions to start with.

27th Dec – 9am-11am
28th Dec 9am-11am
3rd Jan 9am-11am
4th Jan 9am-11am

Q; What if someone from outside the club wants to join in?

A: Too bad, members only. Tell them to join.

Q: What will I get out of it.

A: This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while and think now is a good opportunity.
