Community combines for Club Champs

17 Dec 2018 by UTS Admin

Today feels pedestrian compared to the last week of admin and storms.

A massive call to arms went out to the following groups within our community:
- UTS members
- Dual members
- NSLAC Little A’s who are not dual members
- Trial athletes putting up their hands to give UTS Norths Athletics a chance to take part.

Norths were the 2017 Club Champions having accumulated the most individual event based points that met the previous competition format. So this year’s format would almost seem a walk in the park with individuals contributing towards a team based format.
Besides for the weather which played havoc in Sydney on Saturday there were a few other factors that influenced the outcome:
- Program being pushed back to December
- Australian All Schools
- Nitro Schools Series Final
- Zatopek
- Injuries
- Holidays, both sport and family ones
- Albie Thomas Mile (this coming Saturday)

These events accounted for almost 60 people from our membership being unavailable.

So we can hold our heads above water and be proud that the club was still able to make a challenge and produce the following results before the event was called off on account of the weather:
U14 Girls – 8th
U14 Boys – 4th
U17 Girls – in medal position with 4 events to go
U17 Boys – in medal position with 6 events to go
U20 Girls – 2nd
Masters Men (40) – 1st
Masters Women (40) – 1st

The following teams had just commenced their proceedings when the second rain interruption increased the delay to over an hour, Open Women, Open Men, Masters (50) Men and Masters (50) Women.

This competition also presented a lot of first time participation to young and old and we hope to see more of you in future.

To all those who made preparations to attend, were in transit or left unfinished business on the field, we ask that you complete the following short survey to get your opinion on whether or not the event should be finished at a later date.

The sooner the feedback is gathered a better chance we have of influencing the final decision at ANSW.

We trust that everyone got home safely without incident and that if any damages were incurred as a result of the storm that they are resolved quickly.

Once again thank you for your support as we got to meet new people and create an open line of communication for future events and relations with the club.

Thanks from everyone at the Red and Black.
