Silver for the Gregsons as North's records fall

Sprinters had it tough earlier in the day as the wind threatened to bring rain but then blew it away. The head winds got up to -6.5. Steph Power had to use all she had to get the chocolates in the 100m and second in the 200m by eighteen hundreds.

E-man took the 100m club honours in the absence of the other 10 second prospects. He also managed 6.99m not once but twice on a favourably positioned long jump pit that seemed protected from the elements.
The masters athlete, Ryan Dowling got some short term bragging rights over Ashlyn Ndlovu having powered his way through a -6.7 versus -4.5 winds. Both not able to break 12.
Ashlyn redeemed himself in the 200m going sub 23 in -1.8 while the big guy had to contend with -5.0 in what looked like someone parking a bus.

TTB, Toby Thornton-Bott, younger brother to ITBPro, Izzy, ran himself into the records book over the age appropriate 2000m Steeplechase in 9:03.25min. Another one to contest the shorter chase was Hannah Cerezo finishing in the top half of the field and getting the last gust of wind before the Albie Thomas program got underway.

A few lessons learnt for our State Champion in the multi as Alec Diamond took some notes as the wind played havoc with the 110mH event opener and his delayed pole vault later in the arvo.

The Albie program opened up with an interesting stat for the club, a 53 year age gap between the two Norths athletes as they went around and around and around in the 3k community run. Olivia Gorman, 12, winning the race in 12:02.0min and Dorothy Kass, 65, 19:42.5min. Well done girls.

In the Mens 3k community race brothers Liam and Cam Gorman took it to the line in 9:42.62min and 9:43.31min. Three G’s finished 1,2,3 in the mens but the Gormans had to settle for the last 2 places on the podium. Cam will have the club record in his sight this season, only 15 seconds to go. With a good training squad I am certain that goal is on the horizon.

Norths were also well represented in the quarter mile with athletes in C, B and A race with the best performance on the night run by Matt Crowe in a season best of 48.39s. Sean Fitzsimmons ran hard out of lane 7 with the likes of Gunn, Halpin and Crowe on his inside and slowed to finish half a second outside his recent PB.

Alice Dixon was the only woman rep in the single lap also running from lane 7 in 56.67s, only half a second outside the club record held by Tracey Morton. This may be Alice’s first run since All Schools in Cairns where she finished
2nd in the 200m and 5th in the 100m.

The night was about the mile though and it couldn’t have started off any better with a record for Nathan “Dream Qback” Shute, setting an M45+ club record in a time of 5:24.59min.
David Costello challenged that performance setting an M35+ record in 4:42.63min.

Women were next and the Bankstown track didn’t disappoint, Nicola Christou, 12, set a record of her own 5:55.25min in the C race while Annabel Mcdermott, 19, took line honours in the B race with 5:00.21min, just 3 seconds out of her triple club record having claimed the 17 and 18 when she was 16.

The House of Gorman weren’t done and Liam backed up with younger brother Kieran in the Mens 1 Mile B Race. Charlie Doherty completed the treble for UTS members in the event also pipping Liam for 9th. Young Kieran, 14, 4:32.93min, run himself into the record books as he looks to challenge Elliot Metcalf’s rein. Elliot holds 4 mile records across the age groups.

The Elite Mens 800m was a hands down win from Mason Cohen 1:50.04min, with WAC doing some early pacing for his mate. While the Elite ladies made it 1,2,3 and 5 with Carley Thomas going around in 2:04.74min with Sarah and Izzy both just outside their personal bests. Elise Abood falling short of making it a quartet for the red and black.

Not sure if Annabel got to hang around but if she did she would have witnessed Abbey Rockliff, 17, take 20 seconds off her record in 4:45.03min smashing the under 20 and 23 record in the process. A little bit of healthy competition to keep the legs turning over in the New Year. Kate Spencer was the other rep in the 16 strong event.

Elliot Metcalf continued his dominance in the Mile event getting seeded in the A race with the country’s best as well as a few internationals. Elliot shaved 8 seconds off his under 20 record in 4:08.71min recording the second fastest mile in the clubs history as they all chase Jack Stapleton’s record of 4:00.53min, set 3 years ago.

Who is going to be the first sub 4 minute miler?

Enjoy the festive cheer and look forward to seeing you out for Treloar 6, January 5th, as we look to regain the 2018 Shield.
