Tim Jackson and the Lightning Thief

12 Feb 2019 by UTS Admin

You can be forgiven thinking that the title to this news story is incorrect. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a movie based on Greek Mythology whereas Tim Jackson is the UTS Norths under 23 200m recordholder in 20.93 seconds. Tim represented Oceania at the World Cup in Spain when he set the under 23 and Open Club records, he did manage to go faster in 1990 at the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand with a performance of 20.88s however the wind reading was +2.8m/s. *

Some conversations talk about the next big thing and who can go quicker? There have been a few names that have been put into the hat over the last 30 years. So when I say big and lightning does the name Adboulie Asim come to mind?

Abdoulie, or Busta as some of you would know him as, having competed at the State Relay Championships last November, joined the John Quin stable after the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018. John doesn’t need an introduction having coached the 2000 Australian Olympic Sprint and Relay Team and most recently taken up the role of Director of GWS Giants Academy. John is also one of the guest speakers at the Oceania Area Championships to be held in Townsville later this year.

Busta entered the ACT State Championships in the 100m and 200m. Having gone in the 100m B Final on Saturday he lost out to club mate Christopher Ius who took the second race in a blanket finish by 0.01seconds. The rangy athlete got a good draw as one of the Top 24 seeds that got a bye into the semi finals. Having qualified 6th fastest in the semi in 21.09s his pedigree stood out in a stacked final with the likes of Alex Hartmann, Will Johns, Jordan Shelley and Trae Williams.

Busta is the Lightning Thief in this story and now the UTS Norths 200m Open recordholder in 20.92 seconds (1.7m/s) finishing second behind Alex and shaving 0.01seconds off the previous mark held by Tim Jackson.

UTS Norths Athletics would like to congratulate Busta and if you see him around be sure to get around him and give him a shout out, Good onya mate!
